Somehow I always feel like a bit of an outsider living in Prague, but I didn’t think I would be anything other than a tourist in Egypt. So when we checked into the hotel and the staff greeted us with ‘ahoj’ and ‘jak se maš’, it dawned on me that I was at a destination resort that was 75% Czech. Think “Dirty Dancing” the movie, but with an all male Egyptian staff and my fellow Czech people. And not in the Catskills but in Egypt on the Red Sea. I was the only American and once again I was the outsider which is something I’ve grown accustomed to. Lets just say, no one put Baby in the corner!
I could go on about what we saw and did during this one week. But I think just adding some pictures and a link to our hotel and the Luxor (not in Las Vegas Luxor) is good enough. I’m still trying to absorb the fact that I stood next to the tomb of King Tut and walked through other ancient Egyptian ruins.

Even if I am the outsider, I completely enjoy seeing these childhood friends have fun and provide me with entertainment. We’ve enjoyed every trip we go on and look forward to more.

Beyond our one cultural day, I had an unbelievable time snorkeling along the reef right next to the resort beach. With colorful fish, warm water, and a silky sand it was easy to pass the time. Just swim, sunbath, repeat and do it all again the next day.

One day we wandered onto the deserted beach (away from the resort) and found another bay where we swam with sea turtles and found a geocache!
My only real advice for going to Marsa Alam, Egypt is to take a lot of small change, pack light, and don’t sunbathe next to the henna booth with super friendly Egyptians!

Wow … what an adventure! I can imagine it would take some time to sink in that you actually WERE there, right next to where King Tut was once buried. Fortunately you have the henna tattoos to remind you that it was real. 🙂

Sounds like a fantastic trip. Liked the statues, didn’t know that. Thought they only had pyramids left. The last photo of you is beautiful. I want that blue top and a henna!
